Child Laborers Rescued From Leather Shop.

child labor

Forty-four child laborers were rescued from a leather goods shop in New Delhi where they were forced to work in unsafe and unhealthy conditions with routine beatings.

The children, most around the age of 10, were reportedly beaten and kept in a small room at a leather shop with…

open.salon.com “I don’t support the troops”

I lost 58,000 of my brothers in Vietnam because people “supported” the troops. 58,000 who died so in the year 2010 some of you can spend thousands of dollars to take a vacation in a land that we attempted to “bomb back to the stone age,” just a few decades ago, and be waited on by people who were our sworn enemy. Why were they our enemy? We didn’t know…we just supported the troops. 58,000. Think of it. Who knows what would have come out of that group of 58,000? Perhaps one of those KIA’s would have developed a technology for removing oil from this planets oceans…perhaps. Perhaps one of those would have made a breakthrough in finding a cure for ALS. Perhaps. Perhaps one of those would have developed into a man who really wanted to change the way this country does business…perhaps he would have been elected President and stayed true to his vision. Perhaps. We owe it to those 58,000 to no longer “support” troops that serve only the corporate entities that profit from their killing. We should have the backbone to say “No, I don’t support you…and I want you to stop what you are doing…now!” Wasn’t the 58,000 enough?

Nobody is suggesting that you spit on your uncle’s grave…far from it. There are many young men who went to war believing it was necessary and the right thing to do. The point I am trying to make is that we have become involved in a policy of contriving concepts that send young men to war, and the only beneficiaries of these wars are the corporate powers that derive huge profits from the carnage. I also feel that burdening the citizenry with bloated armed services populated with a good number of people who cannot or will not find employment elsewhere is detrimental to the general welfare.”

Nutrient-rich food for PEOPLE

Simply put, raising cows takes more energy, depletes more fossil fuels, and produces more carbon dioxide. Consider that 70% of grain grown in North America is consumer by animals, not by humans, and it takes 16 pounds of grain to net 1 pound of meat. That’s a huge energy loss and an inefficient use of land. Also, because fields are over-farmed, the soil in which we grow our food is nutrient-poor…. The bottom line is that if we eliminated eating meat, we could use more land to grown nutrient-rich food for people.

In 1998, yielding to the international pressure, the Sudanese government allowed good aid to be distributed to the south. British photojournalist Tom Stoddart travelled with Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF) to a camp in Ajiep, where more than 100 people were dying every day. There he took the above photo of a crippled boy who had queued hours for food, only to find it robbed away from him by a fit man who strides confidently away.On a deeper level, the photo is a symbol of Africa’s continuing problem — the big man with the stick rules. Large amount of food aid disappears from the camps in much needed areas and appears for sale in the market places in neighboring countries.

This is why I do not believe in God.  I cannot, I refuse, I cannot believe that someone that is all knowing and all good, would allow this to happen.  It kills me inside. We are alone in this world.  Please try to help out.  http://www.msf.org/

Human Trafficking

One victim, “Harriet,” is described in the report as an American girl who ran away from home when she was 11 years old and moved in with a 32-year-old man who sexually and physically abused her and persuaded her to become a prostitute.

“In the next two years, Harriet became addicted to drugs and contracted numerous sexually transmitted diseases,” according to the report. The police arrested Harriet when she was 13 and charged her with committing prostitution.

They made no efforts to find her pimp,” the report says. “Harriet was placed on probation for 18 months in the custody of juvenile probation officials. Her lawyers have appealed the decision, arguing that since she could not legally consent to sex, she cannot face prostitution-related charges.

The 373-page “Trafficking in Persons Report 2010” says some 12.3 million adults and children are in forced labor, bonded labor, and forced prostitution around the world. Only 4,166 trafficking prosecutions were successful last year, according to the report.-
